Born in 1937 in Muralto, Switzerland, Niele Toroni explores the question of the artistic gesture and its authenticity in his work. Using varied grounds (paper, canvas, glass), Toroni applies colour at regular intervals of 30 cms with a number 50 paintbrush. Meticulous and radical, he drives forward an intense and methodical artistic process. His works reveal a continuous and exhaustive research into the objectivity of art, calling into question the notion of the author and the importance attributed to the figure of the artist in our times.
The most recent exhibitions dedicated to Niele Toroni were held at the Musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris (2015), the Swiss Institute in New York (2015) and Villa Pisani Bonetti in Vicenza (2011). Some of the artist’s works are exhibited at Punta della Dogana in the exhibition “Accrochage”(2016).
