Peter Aerschmann was born in 1969 in Fribourg, Switzerland. During the 1990s he studied Computer Science at the University of Basel and went on to train at the University of the Arts in Bern, where he lives and works. Drawn by banality rather than the spectacular, Aerschmann makes videos that depart from real hypotheses: the protagonists are people the artist meets and films. In order to maintain the authenticity of the acts carried out, the artist does not pre-plan them and does not provide a script. By modifying the images, he draws the figures out from the background and re-inserts them, along with others, in the same setting, thus giving them a greater virtual space of possibilities.
Recent exhibitions dedicated to his work include those at GROUND Exhibition Space, Moscow (2015) and Kunsthaus, Grenchen, Switzerland (2015). His work was included in the exhibition ‘Voice of Images (2012-13) at Palazzo Grassi.
