Sun Yuan & Peng Yu
Sun Yuan was born in 1972 in Beijing. Peng Yu was born in 1974 in Heilongjiang, China. They trained at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, where they still live and work. At the end of the 1990s they began working together as an artistic duo. They are provocative artists whose works are made with unconventional materials (corpses, human fat, waste materials and live animals). In their artistic practice, they explore the great themes of death, old age, violence and plastic surgery, presenting the viewer with peturbing scenarios, and following an approach that is both macabre and comical,
Exhibitions of Sun Yuan & Peng Yu’s work have been held at Galerie Perrotin, Paris (2013), ICA Gallery 1, Singapore (2012) and Galleria Continua, San Gimignano (2011). Waiting (2006) was shown at Palazzo Grassi in the exhibition ‘The World Belongs to You’ (2011-12).
