
Born in Tokyo in 1962, Takashi Murakami is a contemporary artist and originator of the Superflat theory. In 2007, Murakami’s traveling retrospective © Murakami began its whirlwind tour of four locations in three countries, originating at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art and later traveling to the Brooklyn Museum in April of 2008, Frankfurt’s Museum für Moderne Kunst in September of the same year, and its final stop at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in February of 2009. He has also participated in major exhibitions such as Mapping the Studio at the Punta della Dogana (Venice, 2009) and Pop Life at the Tate Modern.
