Arthur Jafa

Born in Mississippi in 1960, Arthur Jafa initially studied architecture in Washington. He soon became interested in images and in his identity as an African-American artist. Jafa is deeply involved in theoretical artistic research, and seeks to determine what a “Black aesthetic” might be that would be capable of expressing African-American cultural identity, or “Blackness,” not just in music but also – and this is what interests him most – in the visual arts.

His work was included in the exhibition 'Untitled, 2020' (2020) at Punta della Dogana.
