Cerith Wyn Evans
Born in 1958 in Llanelli, Wales, Cerith Wyn Evans currently lives and works in London. He began his career as a filmmaker in the 1970s, making experimental short films. Since the 1990s, Wyn Evans has expanded into other expressive forms – installation, sculpture and photography – continuing to absorb influences from the film world. His work uses the mechanisms of verbal and non-verbal language and breaks with traditional forms of communication, opening to new expressive potentialities, often through unexpected short-circuits. Combining craftsmanship and new technologies, his works are like apparitions that gradually become revelations, and spark real debates.
In 2015 the Serpentine Gallery in London and Museion in Bolzano both dedicated monographic exhibitions to Cerith Wyn Evans. He has participated in the Venice Biennale (2008 e 2003) and the Istanbul Biennale (2005). Cerith Wyn Evans has exhibited at Punta della Dogana in the exhibition “Accrochage” (2016), "Luogo e Segni" (2019).
