Mark Handforth

Mark Handforth was born in 1969 in Hong Kong, and trained at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and the Staatliche Hochschule fur Bildende Künst in Frankfurt. In his works Mark Handforth uses fire hoses, lampposts, street signs or objects from the domestic sphere, such as hangers and telephones. By increasing their scale and presenting them in a public space, he invites viewers to see them in a new light, thus renewing our perception of both the things and their surrounding space. Mark Handforth often uses neon as a material, giving form to things and reconfiguring spaces through brightly lit wall compositions.
