Mohamed Bourouissa was born in 1978 in Blide, Algeria. He currently lives and works in Paris. Through his photographs and videos, Bourouissa dwells on life in the marginal areas of a city. The artist reveals the lexicon, rituals, tensions and questions that premeate suburban life, and also draws attention to the stereotypes. His work translates the gestures and key words of this world of the periphery into images, and results from a mise-en-scène that includes quotations from past, modern and contemporary artists.
Recent exhibitions dedicated to his work include those at Kamel Mennour, Paris (2015), AGO, Toronto (2014) and Haus der Kunst, Munich (2014). His work was included in the exhibition ‘Voice of Images’ (2012-13) at Palazzo Grassi.
