Teresa Burga was born in 1935 in Iquitos, Peru. She is a pioneering figure in conceptual art in Latin America. She explores the patriarchal social structures that govern women’s lives. She shows marginalised female figures, such as prostitutes, women alone in the streets or alone in their home environment, focusing on the imbalances and inequalities of power between the sexes, which she herself has experienced in Peru.
Her work was included in the exhibition 'Untitled, 2020' (2020) at Punta della Dogana.
