Intorno a Nauman #5. Danse
The Teatrino presents a cycle of screenings entitled “Intorno a Nauman”, curated by cinema critic and independent curator Dominique Païni and inspired by the exhibition ‘Bruce Nauman: Contrapposto Studies’ open at Punta della Dogana until 27 November 2022.
The selection includes films that somehow echo the act of walking and the classical pose Contrapposto, two elements at the heart of Bruce Nauman’s works on view. As well as establishing a dialogue with the performances of Bruce Nauman, the cycle retraces the story of Contrapposto, of moving bodies, at the centre of cinematography since its beginning.
'Danse', the fifth appointment of the cycle, presents video works by Bruce Nauman and Samuel Beckett that document two performances dedicated to the act of walking along geometric shapes, followed by the contemporary dance film Phase, directed by Thierry De Mey, and by L'Homme du Pincio, a film in which Alain Fleischer follows a mysterious man walking through the streets of Rome imitating amazing mimics:
- Playing a Note on the Violin While I Walk around the Studio (1968, 11'10) by Bruce Nauman
- Quadrat I+II (1981, 14'58) by Samuel Beckett
- Fase (2002, 57') by Thierry De Mey
- L'homme du Pincio (1993, 60') by Alain Fleischer
Thierry De Mey's work is supported by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, General Service for Artistic Creation.
