Intorno a Nauman #6. Visage(s)
The Teatrino presents a cycle of screenings entitled “Intorno a Nauman”, curated by cinema critic and independent curator Dominique Païni and inspired by the exhibition ‘Bruce Nauman: Contrapposto Studies’ open at Punta della Dogana until 27 November 2022.
The selection includes films that somehow echo the act of walking and the classical pose Contrapposto, two elements at the heart of Bruce Nauman’s works on view. As well as establishing a dialogue with the performances of Bruce Nauman, the cycle retraces the story of Contrapposto, of moving bodies, at the centre of cinematography since its beginning.
The sixth and last appointment of the cycle, entitled "Visage (s)", presents films and video works that have been screened on rare occasions: the famous film Grimaces by Erró, which collects funny faces made by protagonists of the international art scene of the years 1960 and 1970, from Marcel Duchamp to Andy Warhol. It is preceded by Bruce Nauman's work Pulling Mouth, in which the artist contorts his mouth and his features, and by an archive footage from Gaumont / Pathé:
- Pulling Mouth (1969, 10'36) by Bruce Nauman
- Calino s'endurcit la figure (1e diff. 1912, 5'31) by Jean Durand
- Grimace (1962-1967, 43'30) by Erró
