Lucas Arruda - Untitled, 2015 | Untitled, 2016

Lucas Arruda's oil paintings consist of a superimposition of layers, sometimes laid on, sometimes scraped off. Their small scale fosters an intimate, even physical relationship. They demand that we bend down, drawing us toward the picture, in order to appreciate its textures and other visual effects. The artist explains his works in these terms: “Painting, for me, is like holding a candle in the darkness that allows you to see only what is close to you.”
