Small and large sculptures

During the 1960s Martial Raysse created varied assemblages, accumulating and appropriating everyday objects that symbolise consumer society. Later, in his so-called Coco Mato period, he created fantastical micro-universes in boxes. In 1980 he discovered ‘plasticroc’, a stony paste that is both strong and easy to model. His visions and narratives are often condensed into a gallery of figures that draw on historical references and are animated with a caustic humour and ambiguity: fantastical animals, heroes from popular stories and songs, Charlot, demons, imps, fairies and lunar divinities.
